My Apple TV is confined in my entertainment unit and it gets really hot in there and I am afraid it will cause damange to my unit. I have been using it for about a week now and I love it, it makes viewing my music, movies much easier on my tv. Does anyone know where I can get an accessories that will cool down my unit or know of anyone developing one?
There are several companies who develop them for other units, but I have not been able to find any. Please help. ![]() |

I have PS3 and Apple TV in a small space. It's like an oven in there, but so far nothing bad has happened.
I have seen problems in the past with cable boxes getting too hot and freezing up. Speaking of Scientific Atlanta... When is CISCO going to do something with Scientific Atlanta (company that makes cables boxes which they bought not too long ago). Cable boxes are becoming outdated very quickly. It's just about time for CISCO to unleash their IPTV STB's. Sorry to hijack your thread, but i'm curious. |

I have a similar setup... PS3, Apple TV, Cable Box, DVD Player, and Apple Extreme WiFi 802.11n. YUP Gets HOT!!!! The only way is to extract the heat using a fan. Go to Radio Shack and buy a 4" 120 volt fan. Holesaw a 3" hole in a discreet location on the cabinet. Buy a 4" speaker grill to cover your hole. Cheap as hell on ebay, like .50 cents for mine. Really lloks pro and kool! Most important, this setup brought my heat temp from, 98 degrees to 67 degrees! how-do-ya-like-them-apples?
Lastly, this protects your electronics investment! NYDUDE |

I also was concerned with the extreme heat from my appletv. I had it sitting on top of my cable box (which might have caused many of them to go bad). I just got done solidering together a usb fan to put underneth and cool it.
Basically i found the top to an old PSU that had an 80mm fan hole cut out. I took an 80mm fan and a usb cable. I used a 4 pin adapter for 3 reasons, It came with the fan, if i messed up i could throw it away, two lines are easier than three. In the usb cable you will find a white, green, red, and black lines (i also found a copper wire). Solider the red lines together and the black lines together. Peel the rubber off the bottom of the appletv, but be very careful because the rubber tears easily. use a paint scrapper or something like that to scrap off the glue on the bottom/ or use a toothpick to poke through the holes. The nice thing about the old PSU top i found is that it lifts the appletv like 3 inches off my surface. I can tell by feeling the appletv that this cooled it by atleast 5-10%. If I had more guts i would cut a hole in the metal, but so far i dont think i've voided the warranty If you would like to see pictures or talk to me about it email me at rosssgunderson@mac.com |
