1.) Can I use the Apple TV hard drive effectively as a network hard drive to backup non-media files and for use with Time Machine?
If not, I may buy a network HD, like the Apple Time Capsule. 2.) If I loaded my media files on the network drive, can Apple TV access them? 3.) If the answer to #2 is "yes", and I have a large network HD, is there any purpose in buying the 160MB Apple TV vs. the 40MB version? thanks, Mike |

Don't think so for #1. Because it gets it's media directly from iTunes. So only iTunes related media (mp4, .jpg, mp3...) can be imported. As far as I know.
Yes to #2. The biggest reason to store movies, music or photos on the apple TV hard drive is accessing speed. Pulling from a network drive isn't a huge difference but there is a difference. Consider putting the media you access most often on the ATV hard drive. |
