Default OSX on AppleTV - resolutions?

This is a question for anyone who has an AppleTV, has installed OSX on it, and has a 480i TV with component inputs (and no "enhanced" mode). If you have such a TV, you know that your 4:3 content is pillarboxed and your 16:9 content is vertically stretched to fill the height (but is full-width).

What I'm trying to determine is if an AppleTV running OSX can set an appropriate resolution so that the entire screen of the TV is being used. This would permit whatever video content I have on the AppleTV (now an OSX box) to be played full-screen (4:3) or letterboxed (16:9)

So, if you have done such an install and have such a TV, perhaps you might post your results? Thanks very much!
