Default Apple TV and 480i TV

Hi All,

I don't know if this has been answered or not. I have searched around and can't seem to find an answer to this.

I have a 2 year old Toshiba Flat Tube TV (Sorry i'm at work so I don't know the model). It has Component inputs on the back as well as 2 Composite and an S-Video input. The Apple TV works great in the Component inputs, and while setting up Apple TV I had to choose '480i' as the resolution (all other resolutions crash).

My problem is this; When I play a TV show I ripped off a DVD the picture size is much smaller than my whole screen. Also, I have to use the 16:9 function on the TV because the picture is stretched vertically. This gives me about a 20" picture on a 27" screen (roughly). The wierd thing is when I play the same DVD in my DVD player, the picture is full screen and perfect.

I am currently on a PC using 'DVD Decrypter' then 'Videora Apple TV Converter' to encode movies and TV shows from DVD (This seems to be the easiest way for me). I've tried 'Handbrake' but it takes 10+ hours to convert one movie.

Is there a better way to get full screen movies and TV shows with my setup? Or am I looking at upgrading to a TV that will display a higher resolution?

Thanks in advance for any help
Russ K
