Default Apple TV Web Browser in Development

There has been chatter on the awkwardtv irc chat room that an Apple TV Web browser us currently in development. While Apple may also be working on a web browser for their forgotten Apple TV, open source developers like AlanQ and bile may beat them to it, releasing their own incarnation of Webkit, programmed specifically for the Apple TV.

The #1 use for this in my opinion will be a new breed of content aggregation sites. Basically you would be able to bookmark special ATV crafted sites which linked off to videos found all over the internet. You can browse these content lists and click to stream and play the videos right to your ATV, or save the videos for watching later. Sites like Digg could make a special formatted page for DiggVideos so all of this content can be enjoyed from your TV.

BTW, all of this stuff should apply to iphone \ itouch also.. Developers, if you are listening, build an open source standards based way of aggregating video and audio content, and displaying it on screens of apple tv's and ipods.. iptv will be here before you know it!

Stay Tuned!
