Default Modifying the Apple TV's Menu

ericIII, has been developing a plugin for the apple tv itunes (dubbed backrow) which allows him to inject additional menu items into the apple tv's default menu.

This will make it possible to still use the apple tv as it was intended, but also add in additional sections of content from other sources.

Hopefully we will see a writeup soon on how to compile a plugin like this, and then we can begin creating additional menu items on the apple tv.

Check out his plugin in action here:

What kind of sources would you need to add to the menu?

He has released a plugin that will add a 'Filez' section to the ATV menu which points to a mounted network drive. From there you can play your movies, no itunes needed, and if you install Perian, it will play lots of codecs.
