Hi,
I picked up a 160GB Apple TV yesterday. It was an open box product (no scratches and everything intact) for $270 from Fry's Electronics. I'm sure they mis-marked it, but hey its quite a score. I'm really interested in unlocking my Apple TV and adding some features such as Xvid playback and other stuff as well. Unfortunately as a PC owner it seems fairly difficult to accomplish the MOD (turning on SSH) for the Apple TV. I've seen some ok walkthroughs on youtube on how to do it with a PC but am really not interested in taking the Apple TV apart to attach the drive to the PC. I've seen that there are one or two places where you can send your Apple TV to be modded but the patchstick tutorials seem simple enough if I had a linux distro or a Mac running OSX. Is there an easy way to build a patchstick using a Windows box? Are there places to send a memory stick to be loaded with the patchstick ready to go? Or another way I haven't read about yet? Thanks for any suggestions -Ford |

Any suggestions? If I cant pinpoint some option I'll end up returning the Apple TV.
I've tried contacting Marshman Mods a couple of times with no replies. So I'm assuming that they are no longer doing mods. Anyone here willing to send me a preconfigured patchstick? I can send a paypal payment, etc to cover any costs. |

Just joined this forum today.
One main problem I also have is creating a patchstick using Win platform (Vista or XP) Tried several DD methods, but got errors everytime. Even tried using Ubuntu, with no success. Looking at the latest post dates in this forum, I too believe it has died out, and there are no real active users here...... What a pity! ![]() |

There is currently no way to create a patchstick using anything other than an Intel mac. The patchstick script copies system files from the OS X install on the mac as well as some other files included in the patchstick download.
There are patchstick images available on the torrent sites, but these are illegal in the sense that they contain apple's proprietary software plus I wouldn't trust them from an unknown source. Best bet is going to be to find someone with an intel mac to assist with creating a patchstick. There are other methods to enable ssh to allow for installing other software and plugins to the appletv, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do this without removing the hd from the appletv and mounting it on a pc (linux, xp or otherwise) |
