Default Reset your Apple TV to Factory Defaults

If you hold down Menu and - while the Apple TV is booting it will bring you to a menu where you can restore your Apple TV to it's defaults.

Hi Folks,
News here too. Great forum. Hey, after setting up our Apple TV I noticed that occasionally when I launch iTunes on my PC it appears to cause the Apple TV to freeze on the logo. Unplugging and plugging back in seems to remedy the problem but seems kinda' a harsh way to reset the unit. Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

if you've hacked your appletv and can ssh into it, you could try resetting it from the command-line.

sudo shutdown -r now

will perform a reset... Although if the whole OS is frozen, this prob wouldn't help.

I heard that there is a similar way to reset iPod to factory defaults. Does anybody know how to do it? And what happens to songs and movies that already on the iPod. Does it reformat memory or just restores settings?

Restoring an iPod will erase all songs/data on the iPod. You always initiate the restore through iTunes.

If you've got an iPod Touch then you can upgrade the firmware the same way, or downgrade too.
